The final countdown has begun to the launch of Plymouth Active Leisure Ltd, a new Council-owned company that will run our leisure facilities (Brickfields Sports Centre and Recreation Ground, Mount Wise Outdoor Pools, Plymouth Life Centre, Plympton Swimming Pool and Gym and Tinside Lido) from 1 April.
Plymouth Active will continue to provide opportunities for people to be – and stay – active but it will also look at ways to better promote health and wellbeing and benefit our most vulnerable residents, helping to make Plymouth the most active coastal city in England by 2034.
A new customer-friendly website and booking app enabling people to find out more about the facilities, join as a member, book classes and find out about other opportunities to be more active, will be launched on 1 April 2022. However, you will be able to preview the site and download the app from 30 March 2022 to find up to date information.
Anyone wanting to make a booking for classes or other activities up to and including the 31 March can continue to do so on the current Everyone Active website. However, bookings for April and beyond cannot be made until the Plymouth Active website and app is officially launched on the 1 April.
All current members of Everyone Active have been contacted directly, and their membership and direct debits will transfer over to Plymouth Active from 1 April. This will enable a seamless transfer and will ensure that members can continue to access services. Memberships will remain the same for at least six months, as will programming. However, members are reminded that as part of the annual review of all fees and charges, some prices will be increasing by 4 per cent from 1 April.
Over the next few weeks, the Council and Plymouth Active will continue working behind the scenes to ensure that everything is ready-to-go from day one, with minimum disruption to customers. However, this is a major change and whilst every effort will be made to ensure there is no disruption please bear with us. If you have any questions or concerns, please use the feedback form on the new website when launched or email us.
Councillor Mark Deacon, Cabinet Member for Customer Services, Culture, Leisure and Sport, said: “We are excited that Plymouth Active Leisure will be launching on 1 April – cementing our ambition that Plymouth will be the most active, coastal city in England by 2034. I would like to thank our previous provider – Everyone Active, for their work in Plymouth and support during the transfer.
“Over the next few years we have some exciting plans for our centres including investment in Plympton Gym and Brickfields. This would involve enhancements generally and new gym capacity, and energy efficiency improvements.
“As we get ready for the launch, we look forward to welcoming current and new customers to the centres and there are some great membership options available.
“There is a lot of work to be done to ensure this transfer is as seamless as possible and that any disruption or inconvenience is kept to an absolute minimum. But I do ask customers to bear with us. Whilst our ambition is that there is no change to customers, there will be some minor changes when new systems are introduced.”
A Plymouth Active Facebook and Twitter account will also launch on 30th March, with the latest news, updates and incentives about Plymouth Active.
